Destinations
The ride on the Molli takes you through the largest German Baltic resort of Kühlungsborn, past the white town by the sea – Heiligendamm, to the cathedral town of Bad Doberan, where it steams through the middle of the main shopping street. But the journey alone is not the only thing worth seeing. There is also plenty to discover along the route. You can find our excursion tips here.
Baltic Sea beach, art gallery & Balticplatz
From Kühlungsborn West train station, it’s just a 10-minute walk to Baltic Platz with the historic Villa Baltic and the Kunsthalle art gallery nearby. Here you can linger on the numerous benches, enjoy the view of the Baltic Sea or let off steam with your children on the Arendsee playground.

Kühlungsborn East
Kühlungsborn Ost station is the perfect starting point for a stroll along Strandstraße, which leads directly to the pier. From here you have a great view of Kühlungsborn and can even see Heiligendamm to the east. The adjacent lakeside promenade and the fine sandy beach also invite you to linger.

MS Baltica
Take a nostalgia tour on water, on land and by rail. From mid-June to the end of October, you have the opportunity to start your excursion in Warnemünde with the MS Baltica. After your arrival in Kühlungsborn Ost, you have a 1.5-hour stopover before boarding the Molli at Kühlungsborn Ost station and continuing on towards Bad Doberan. After half an hour’s ride, you can visit the cathedral in Bad Doberan. Afterwards, take the Molli back to Kühlungsborn Ost and from there take the MS Baltica back to Warnemünde.
Cliffs
During the summer timetable, the Molli regularly stops at the Steilküste stop. As the name suggests, you can take a walk along the cliffs from here. It is around 45 minutes on foot to Heiligendamm. In the direction of Kühlungsborn to the harbor it is about 25 minutes.
Heiligendamm – White City by the Sea
The white city by the sea takes its name from the unique ensemble of neoclassical buildings. Even the station building welcomes you in its white robe. The pearl necklace of villas parallel to the beach promenade and the former Kurhaus and today’s Grand Hotel Heiligendamm are particularly worth seeing.
As early as 1793, the personal physician of the Grand Duke of Mecklenburg, Friedrich Franz I, recognized the positive effects of the Baltic Sea and Heiligendamm became the first German seaside resort. With its white sandy beaches, blue sea and crystal-clear air, it still attracts numerous visitors today.
Ehm-Welk-House
The former home of the writer Ehm Welk is located directly on the Mollischienen. The best way to reach it is on foot from the Goethestraße stop. The house is now used as an event venue and museum, among other things. There is a permanent exhibition in the house about Ehm Welk’s biography, his work in the Bad Doberan period and the connection between Ehm Welk and the animals.
Doberan Minster & monastery complex
Consecrated in 1368, the high Gothic Doberan Minster with its original medieval interior is known as the “Pearl of North German Brick Gothic”. The monastery church of the Cistercian monastery, founded in 1186, is considered the most important medieval building in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The adjoining monastery complex is also worth a visit. It is also home to the town and baths museum and the socio-cultural center in the Kornhaus. We recommend getting off at the Bad Doberan Stadtmitte Molli stop for a visit.
Bad Doberan
In addition to the cathedral and the monastery complex, Bad Doberan offers numerous other sights. For example, the Red and White Pavilions, the Prinzenpalais and the Alexandrinenhof are located in the immediate vicinity of the Kamp. Hop off at the Bad Doberan Stadtmitte stop and stroll through the town center or find out about the sights at the tourist information office at Mollistraße 10.
